About Yanmar — 110+ Years of Japanese Diesel Engineering

Founded in 1912, Yanmar pioneered the world's first practical small diesel engine and has since expanded into compact construction equipment, marine engines, and energy systems — serving 130 countries with 5,400+ employees.

Japanese Precision. Global Reach.

Yanmar was founded in Osaka, Japan in 1912 by Magokichi Yamaoka with a vision of creating small, efficient diesel engines that would make power accessible beyond large industrial applications. In 1933, Yanmar achieved this vision by developing the world's first commercially practical small diesel engine — a breakthrough that earned recognition as a Mechanical Engineering Heritage landmark.

Today, Yanmar's TNV diesel engine platform powers over 3 million installations across construction, marine, agricultural and industrial applications in 130 countries. Our compact excavator and track loader division applies the same philosophy: precision engineering that maximizes performance within the smallest possible machine footprint.
