What I will tell you: I've worked on all three brands, and they each have strengths. Yanmar's diesel engines are legendary for reliability and fuel efficiency. In a head-to-head with Kubota's, I'd give Yanmar the edge on longevity under heavy load. But Kubota has a wider dealer network in some regions and often better parts availability. John Deere has better electronics and precision farming features.
Where Yanmar shines: The 425 is an incredibly nimble machine. It's small enough to fit through a 36-inch gate, but it has enough hydraulic power to handle backfilling and light grading. For residential landscaping, it's hard to beat. Where it struggles? If you need a cab for year-round work or want high-flow hydraulics for advanced attachments, you'll be better off looking at Kubota's BX or LX series.
My advice: rent both for a weekend. Try them on your actual terrain. The Yanmar might feel perfect to you, or it might not. I can't tell you that from a blog post. But I can tell you this: anyone who says 'One brand is always better' is either selling you something or hasn't actually used them.
