It might seal fine at a workbench test and leak under a pressure spike. (I have the oil-stained paperwork to prove it.)

The genuine Yanmar fittings were $8.40 each. Someone in the shop said, 'Six bucks is six bucks.' The savings looked like $31.80. The total was around $150. The genuine set would have been $50.40, with no extra trip. The $31.80 'saving' turned into roughly $100 of waste. That is not a dramatic failure—no injury, no fire, no engine damage. It was just a normal Tuesday in a shop that buys on price.

I am not saying every non-OEM product is a trap. To be fair, our Dewalt air compressor was a reasonable buy for light work. The problem was that we bought it based on the sticker price and then used it where the duty cycle was higher than the manual allowed. The pump needed a rebuild that cost $180. That didn't make the compressor bad; it made our purchase decision incomplete. The same logic applies to hydraulic fittings, loader attachments, and marine diesel parts.
At home, the front-loading washing machine started smelling like a wet dog. The next time someone tells me a Yanmar fitting is cheaper online, I ask: cheaper than what, and counting what? The answer to that question is usually where the real savings are hiding.
